Yukon Territory is located in the northwestern part of Canada’s mainland. It is one of Canada’s three Territories and is located in the extreme northwest of the country; the other two territories being Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Yukon shares a border with its American neighbour, Alaska. Most people will know the Yukon for its rich history which includes the Klondike Gold Rush, and subsequent mining activities for silver, gold and copper. This is rugged land and home to many species of wildlife. The Yukon is wonderful for bird watchers and also for anglers who fish the clear lakes and streams for many species including salmon. It is also popular with big game hunters for animals such as the moose, brown and black bears, grizzlies and caribou. Other activities include dog mushing and panning for gold. There may be other local ski hills and areas in Yukon, but the main ski area is at Mount Sima in the capital city of Whitehorse.
