Pennsylvania is perhaps best known as the birth place of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. There is plenty of history and many interesting places to explore, from the Dutch Country area where the Mennonite and Amish communities live to the bustling cities of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.   The main mountain ranges are the Pocono, Appalachian and Endless ranges. 

 

Skiing in the state of Pennsylvania is mainly located in the Pocono Mountains.  All the areas are within reach of the major areas of New York City, Pittsburgh, Washington DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain is located close to Allentown and Philadelphia.  It offers 30 runs and the highest vertical drop at 1,080 feet.   There is plenty of terrain for all levels of skier, including a 3,000 foot double black diamond trail.   The mountain is open to boarders.   There is night skiing, a terrain park, half pipe and snow tubing.   There are 10 lifts (1 hi speed 6 pass., 1 hi speed quad, 1 triple, 3 doubles, 4 surface).  The longest run is 6,400 feet.   Skier levels:  44% beginner, 30% intermediate, 13% advanced, 13% expert. 

 

Camelback Ski Area

Camelback offers 33 trails (33 open for night skiing), 13 lifts including 2 hi speed quads, 2 terrain parks and a half pipe.  There is also a snow tubing park.   The mountain is open to skiers and boarders.  Vertical drop 800 feet, summit elevation 2,050 feet, 139 skiable acres, longest run is 6,000 feet.  Skier levels:  7% beginner, 54% intermediate, 24% advanced, 15% expert.   

 

Elk Mountain

Elk Mountain is located in Union Dale in northeastern Pennsylvania. Elk Mountain offers alpine skiing and boarding, night skiing and a terrain park.  A vertical drop of 1,000 feet, with summit elevation of 2,693 feet, 140 skiable acres, 6 lifts (5 doubles, 1 quad), 27 trails, 95% snowmaking available and annual snowfall of 60 inches.
