Skiing Tasmania

Tasmania is located off the SE corner of Australia and separated from the Australian mainland by the Bass Strait.   There is nothing else between Tasmania and Antarctica.  Tasmania is also surrounded by the Tasman Sea and Southern Ocean.   The capital city is Hobart, and other major cities and centres are Launceston, Burnie and Devonport.   

Tasmania is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with thousands of kilometers of walking trails, eighteen national parks, wonderful coastlines, mountains, forests and lakes.  Between the national parks and the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area it is a haven for many rare species of plants and animals.

Ben Lomond

Ben Lomond is known as the best winter sport resort in Tasmania.  It has great views and plenty of activities on offer including downhill, cross country, boarding and a toboggan run.  The Alpine Village is located at the base. There is slopeside accommodation at the Creek Inn.  The area is approx. one hour’s drive from Launceston and under three hours from Hobart.

Mt. Mawson

Mt. Mawson is located in the Mt. Field National Park and is approx. 90 minutes drive from Hobart in the southern part of Tasmania.   This is a small ski club area which is also open to the public.  There are Nordic trails with huts in the area and there also a toboggan run.

Skier levels: 30% beginner, 50% intermediate, 20% advanced
