Sri Lanka

Originally called Ceylon, Sri Lanka, located in the Indian Ocean just off the southern tip of India is becoming extremely popular as a holiday destination.
It is a relatively small island but has a population of around 20 million. Many people are attracted to Sri Lanka for the fantastic beaches but find that it offers more culture then some of the better known destinations. Hikkaduwa for example is well known for its beaches but at the same time its visiting turtle population. It is also a large attraction to sports fanatics who come from all over the world to enjoy a top class game of cricket.
The major city, Colombo is where the real hustle and bustle takes place; here you will find some of the tallest buildings in Sri Lanka along with its commercial centre. If you visit the northern half of the city be sure to be on the lookout for the British Fort, dating from the 19 th century and other examples of the old colonial days.
CLIMATE
Sri Lanka is a tropical climate with northeast monsoon between December and March and a southwest monsoon from June to October.
